EOCO Links Abu Trica to Romance Scam Network Targeting Elderly Victims in U.S.

Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) says Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, was part of an international criminal network involved in romance scams that targeted elderly victims across the United States.

According to EOCO, the alleged criminal activities date back to 2023 and involved deceiving victims through online romantic relationships to fraudulently obtain money.

He was part of a criminal network that targeted elderly victims in romance scams across the United States since 2023,EOCO stated.

The agency explained that the network allegedly operated across borders, using digital platforms to exploit vulnerable individuals, particularly senior citizens, who were manipulated into transferring large sums of money under false pretences.

EOCO noted that the case forms part of broader international efforts to clamp down on cyber-enabled financial crimes and protect vulnerable populations from online fraud schemes.

Investigations are ongoing, with Ghanaian authorities working closely with international law enforcement partners to ensure that all individuals involved are held accountable under the law.
