Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Charles Forson, has cautioned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) risks remaining in opposition for more than a decade if it fails to win the 2028 general elections.
According to the MP, Ghana’s political history shows that parties which lose power often struggle to regain it quickly, making the 2028 polls a critical test for the NPP’s future.
If the NPP doesn’t win 2028, it will take over 12 years to come back to power, Mr. Forson stated.
He stressed that the party must begin rebuilding immediately by reconnecting with the grassroots, addressing internal challenges, and presenting policies that resonate with the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.
Mr. Forson also urged party leaders and supporters to remain united, warning that internal divisions and complacency could weaken the party’s chances in the next election cycle.
His comments add to ongoing discussions within the NPP about post-election reforms, leadership direction, and strategies needed to position the party strongly ahead of 2028.
