NAIMOS Task Force Cracks Down on Galamsey in Fanteakwa South; Equipment Burned, Suspects Arrested

The National Infiltration Monitoring and Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has carried out a major dawn raid on illegal mining sites in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region, dismantling several galamsey operations and seizing heavy machinery.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Saturday, 7th December 2025, targeted multiple hotspots noted for persistent illegal mining activities. According to officials, the task force seized excavators, a payloader, pumping machines, and other mining equipment which were being used to carry out unregulated gold mining.

Images from the operation show makeshift mining structures engulfed in flames, as well as heavy equipment destroyed to prevent further use. Several individuals believed to be involved in illegal mining activities were also arrested during the raid.

Authorities say the exercise forms part of renewed national efforts to clamp down on environmental degradation caused by illegal mining, particularly in forest reserves and along river bodies. The task force emphasized that similar operations will continue across the country to protect lands and water resources.

The suspects arrested are expected to be processed for further investigations and possible prosecution.
