Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu says he will not provide evidence to support his corruption allegations against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to investigators of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), insisting that only an independent body is fit to handle the matter.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, December 6, Mr. Kpebu explained that his refusal to submit the evidence prompted the OSP’s invitation and the subsequent confrontation involving a military officer, which resulted in his arrest and detention.
He argued that it would be inappropriate to hand over evidence to officials who report directly to the very person he has accused. Following his public allegations against Mr. Agyebeng, the OSP summoned him, but he said he will not cooperate if the goal is to present evidence to the Special Prosecutor’s subordinates.
There’s no law that states that I must present my evidence to subordinates. I made it clear to them, and the matter was closed, he said, adding that he considers his engagement with the OSP completed unless an independent panel is constituted. If a board is constituted and the board invites me, I will go.
Mr. Kpebu further disclosed that he intends to petition President John Dramani Mahama in the coming week, requesting the removal of Mr. Agyebeng from office.
