Parliament Declares Vacancy in Kpandai Seat, Notifies EC After Court-Ordered Rerun

Parliament has officially informed the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency parliamentary seat following a High Court directive for a rerun of the 2024 parliamentary elections in the area.

The notification, sent this week, triggers the constitutional process for the EC to organise fresh elections in the constituency. This follows a ruling by the High Court, which annulled the earlier 2024 parliamentary results for Kpandai and ordered a new contest after determining that irregularities affected the credibility of the poll.

With Parliament’s formal communication, the EC is now expected to set a date and outline guidelines for the rerun, giving constituents the opportunity to elect a new Member of Parliament.

The Kpandai Constituency will remain without representation in Parliament until the rerun is conducted and a winner duly declared.
