CID Probes American Tourist’s Viral Kidnapping and Robbery Allegations

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a full-scale investigation into allegations made by an American tourist, Arianna Naomi Mackey, who claims she was kidnapped and robbed during her visit to Ghana.

The accusations, which went viral on social media, have sparked widespread public interest and prompted the police to respond swiftly. In the viral video, Mackey alleges that she was abducted by unknown individuals, assaulted, and robbed of her personal belongings while touring parts of Accra.

According to the Ghana Police Service, a formal complaint has not yet been lodged by the victim, but officers have initiated inquiries to verify the claims due to the serious nature of the allegations and their impact on Ghana’s image as a safe tourism destination.

In a brief statement, the CID confirmed that investigators have begun reviewing the viral footage, gathering intelligence, and tracing the tourist’s movements before and after the alleged incident. The police also indicated that they are working with relevant agencies, including immigration and hospitality operators, to establish the facts.

Tourism stakeholders have expressed concern, noting that such reports, whether true or misleading, could affect the country’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for international visitors.

The police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue, assuring that updates will be provided once credible findings are established.

More details are expected in the coming days as the CID progresses with the probe.
