Andre Onana and Vincent Aboubakar have been left out of Cameroon’s final squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a decision that has sparked widespread debate and disbelief among fans and football analysts.
The two players, long considered pillars of experience within the Indomitable Lions setup, will not feature in the continental showpiece, a move that signals a bold shift in the team’s direction as new leadership pushes to redefine Cameroon’s identity and long-term strategy.

Onana, who has enjoyed spells at some of Europe’s elite clubs, has struggled for form in recent months after losing his starting spot at Manchester United. He is currently on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor for the remainder of the 2025–26 season.
Aboubakar, a seasoned forward and former national team captain known for his leadership and decisive goals, is also missing from the squad. His exclusion has stunned many supporters who viewed him as an essential figure in Cameroon’s attacking setup.
The omission of both veterans points to a possible generational transition within the squad. It also raises questions about internal dynamics, tactical decisions, and the coaching staff’s long-term vision as Cameroon prepares for what promises to be a highly competitive AFCON campaign.
