Real Madrid Lose Interest in Signing Liverpool Defender Ibrahima Konaté
Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly no longer pursuing a deal to sign Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté in 2026.
The French international had been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish club following his standout performances during the 2024–2025 season, which helped Liverpool secure the Premier League title. However, a noticeable dip in form has reportedly led Xabi Alonso’s squad to step back from negotiations.
According to The Athletic, Konaté had been on Real Madrid’s shortlist as the club looked to strengthen its injury-hit central defense.
The report adds that Konaté is currently in talks with Liverpool over a new contract, though no agreement has been reached yet. Meanwhile, Liverpool have struggled to replicate the form that led them to the league title last season.
Under Arne Slot, the team has endured a difficult start to the season, securing just one win in seven league matches. Konaté also drew criticism for his role in Liverpool’s 4-1 UEFA Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven, being at fault for the third goal.
The 26-year-old has scored one goal in five Champions League appearances this season and has made 12 league appearances, but his recent struggles have overshadowed his previous contributions.
