The government has announced a major initiative to promote inclusive digital development next year, earmarking 50,000 fully funded technology training slots for persons with disabilities (PWDs) under the One Million Coders Programmer .
The intervention forms part of a broader push by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technology to expand access, improve affordability, and ensure that vulnerable groups are not left behind as demand for digital services continues to grow.
Speaking at the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration, Minister Samuel Nartey George said the government is taking concrete steps to strengthen accessibility across the digital sector. We will enforce accessibility standards across all government digital platforms, ensuring they meet global benchmarks such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, he noted.
We are also advancing efforts to make digital services more affordable and inclusive.
According to the Minister, the government is collaborating with the National Communications Authority (NCA) and telecom service providers to introduce concessionary data packages, develop accessible customer service channels, and encourage greater investment in inclusive technologies.
He emphasized that the new training opportunity for PWDs will be rolled out nationwide. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, 50,000 fully paid slots will be reserved for persons with disabilities as part of the One Million Coders Programmer . This will not be limited to Accra and Kumasi we will ensure equitable distribution across all regions, he assured.
The initiative is expected to boost digital literacy and improve employability for thousands of PWDs as Ghana accelerates its digital transformation agenda.
