NUGS Rejects Scholarship Authority Board Inauguration Without Student Representation

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has strongly opposed the inauguration of the Scholarship Authority Board, citing the absence of student representation as a major concern.

In a statement following the inauguration ceremony  NUGS described the board’s composition as unacceptable, arguing that students who are the primary beneficiaries of government scholarships have been sidelined in the decision-making process.

The student body insists that the exclusion undermines transparency, accountability, and fairness in the administration of scholarships. According to NUGS, student representation is critical to ensuring that scholarship policies reflect the real challenges faced by beneficiaries across tertiary institutions.

NUGS has consequently demanded the immediate dissolution of the current board and called on government to reconstitute it to include student representatives. The union warned that failure to address their concerns could lead to nationwide student agitation.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to engaging stakeholders constructively but maintained that it would not accept any arrangement that sidelines the voices of Ghanaian students.
