DVLA Suspends New Digital Number Plate System Over Legislative Challenges

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has suspended its new digital number plate system due to challenges in meeting requirements under the amended Legislative Instrument (LI).

According to the Director of Corporate Affairs, Stephen Attuh, the suspension is not the result of any lawsuit but rather the Authority’s inability to fully align the system with the revised legal framework.

The digital number plate system was introduced to modernize vehicle registration and improve monitoring, but officials say compliance with the updated LI is necessary before implementation can continue.

The DVLA has assured the public that steps are being taken to address the legislative gaps and that the system will be reintroduced once all legal requirements are met.
