2025 WASSCE Provisional Results Out: WAEC Cancels Subjects for 6,295 Students

WAEC Releases 2025 WASSCE Provisional Results; Thousands Affected by Cancellations and Withheld Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates in Ghana. While the majority of candidates received their results, a significant number were affected by cancellations or withheld results due to examination malpractice.

Key Highlights of the 2025 WASSCE

  • 6,295 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials—such as prepared notes, textbooks, and printed materials into examination halls.
  • 653 candidates had their entire results cancelled for possession of mobile phones during exams.
  • 908 candidates had subject results withheld, and 158 candidates had their full results withheld due to various suspected offences.
  • Additionally, subject results from 185 schools remain withheld over alleged collusion, with investigations ongoing. WAEC aims to release these results by the end of December 2025, depending on the outcomes of the investigations.

Teachers and Other Personnel Implicated

WAEC identified 35 individuals, including 19 teachers, involved in activities that compromised the integrity of the examination. Of these, 19 have already faced the courts and received fines or jail terms, while the remaining 16 are yet to be presented before the authorities. Beyond legal action, the names of the teachers will be forwarded to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service for disciplinary measures.

Accessing Results

WAEC has made the results available online. Heads of schools will receive login credentials to access the results of their candidates, while individual candidates can check their results via the WAEC website at www.waecgh.org. Candidates are also cautioned against fraudsters offering results “upgrades” for a fee, as all WAEC results are secure and verifiable through its official system.

Performance Overview

  • Total registered candidates: 461,736 (207,415 males and 254,321 females) from 1,021 schools, marking a slight increase from 2024.
  • Candidates absent from exams: 5,821 (1.26%).
  • Core subject performance statistics were released by WAEC, highlighting overall candidate performance for the year.

WAEC thanked stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, school heads, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners—for supporting the successful conduct and release of the 2025 WASSCE.
